Mission Statement

The Office of Compliance and Internal Audit Services (OCIAS) exists to:

  • Support the mission, goals, values, and objectives of Brigham Young University–Hawaii, the Church Education System, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • Provide an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve operations.
  • Bring a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, internal control, and governance processes.

To this end, OCIAS will:

  • Perform duties with the highest degree of integrity, honesty, proficiency, and due professional care and in conformity with the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, the Code of Ethics, and other guidance established by the Institute of Internal Auditors and the Association of College and University Auditors.
  • Communicate progress and results to appropriate levels of administration and management in an accurate, fair, clear, constructive, and timely manner.
  • Enhance the knowledge, skills, and other competencies of its staff through continuing professional education.
  • Continually monitor and evaluate internal auditing activities to ensure effectiveness and quality, and that they add value and assist in improving operations.
